范文：What does education mean for a person - to gain the knowledge and ability to excel in professional career or to enable him to contribute meaningfully to society?
As for me, they are not mutually exclusive, and further, the latter can and does embrace the former.
Narrowly, education facilities an understanding of oneself, providing a chance to enlighten one to know more about what he wants.
That is, from kindergarten to university, one gradually realizes his desire that usually comes with different types and requires skills and ability of various kinds to fulfill. Then, in order to make these dreams come into being, he has nothing to do but learn, and more importantly, being educated, other than self learning, is more effective way to expedite this. Consider, for example, a girl who dreams of becoming a nurse. Only by attending the college will she be able to fulfill her ambition.
Then, for a broader perspective, becoming truly education requires sufficient mastery of one particular academic area to permit individuals to make contributions to social development and construction. It is a fact universally acknowledged, that any society is made up by individuals who work in positions of all kinds. Then, through education no matter what form it is, they become knowledgeable citizens and, at the same time, take on the role in their communities. Theoretically, the more education they receive, the more they will pay back to the society. Hence, great benefits eventually accrue to society as a result of education.
To sum up, it is easy for me to draw a conclusion that education amounts to far more than gaining knowledge and ability; that is, it deals people a chance to be entitled to self-determination. And with all these individual efforts coming up together, the society develops greatly.
