One of the books that I have recently read is called At Home: A Short History of Private Life by an author called Bill Bryson. It is a thick, factual bookabout many different subjects. It is really a collection of information and anecdotes related to our private lives, past and present.
The book is mainly about things that have been included in our homes over the centuries. The author started out by wondering about the history of everything in his own home. As it is a factual book rather than a novel, it does not have a plot as such. Each chapter in the book covers the history of a particular room. For example, the chapter on the kitchen talks about the history of running water, electricity, gas cooking and so on. The chapter aboutthe bathroom looks at the history of plumbing, sanitation and privacy. The bookcontains so much interesting information that I think I will have to read it again in order to take it all in.
As to the kind of people who would enjoy it, I think anybody who is interested in history and enjoys learning lots of interesting facts would enjoy reading this book. It would also appeal to a busy person, as it’s a good book to dip in and out of, because you don’t have to follow a story, as you would with a novel. You can just take it chapter by chapter, or even page by page, as there is something to learn on every page. Each chapter is written like a story, even though it is a factual book, so it takes the reader to all sorts of unexpected places, and for me it was a real page-turner.
I like this book because I learned such a huge amount from it, which has made me look around my own home with different eyes and appreciate just how far we have come in a short space of time in terms of architecture, technology, lighting, comfort and many other things.
雅思口語7分有多難?詞匯量要多少才夠
很多同學問：雅思口語7分有多難?口語7分需要多少詞匯量?其實，在教雅思口語的過程中，大家都會遇到這樣的問題：如果我詞匯量有限，應該怎么辦?等等。對于這樣的問題，新東方雅思老師給出這樣的解釋：詞匯量是雅思口語考察的四個評分標準之一，但絕對不是唯一的評分標準，而且也不是最為重要的評分標準。考生們之所以會有這樣的眾多的關于詞匯量的疑問，主要是由于傳統英語教學方式所致。在傳統英語教育中，無論是平時的課堂教學，還是考試，詞匯都被給予了極大的重視。

其實，電視節目或者radio里面的人說話時用的詞匯之所以難主要是因為這些話都是事先準備好的。如果大家真的與外教或者其他的外國人多進行交流的時候，我們不難發現，外國人通常用的詞匯很簡單，非常常見。大家可以想象一下：在外教課上，外教說的話基本上稍微有點水平的學生都會聽的懂。但是學生們有沒有想過，如果讓你們站在講桌上，你們是否還能連續的說3個小時呢? 恐怕5分鐘都非常的困難。所以我們可以看到，其實雅思口語能力并不是通過詞匯量來衡量，而是更多的看一個人運用語言這樣的工具去交流。
當然，不需要太多詞匯量，并不代表可以沒有詞匯量。專家們認為，如果考生在雅思口語考試中想要考6分，2000詞匯足以。如果要考7分，3000詞匯都多。當然，這一切發生的條件都是考生不能在雅思口語的其他三個評分標準中有太大的瑕疵：發音，語法和流利度。可能很多人感覺3000詞匯怎么可能口語考7，那么下面就讓我們來分析一下這3000詞匯包含什么?7分的雅思口語又是如何通過這3000詞匯實現的?
3000詞匯當然除了基本的在國內小學，初中學習的詞匯外，還主要包含兩個方面：1. 雅思口語常用表達：比如說for what is worth; totally;pretty much等;2. 專業的雅思話題詞匯。 首先，第一類的詞匯可以簡單的稱之為萬能詞匯，具有以下特點：1。在外國人的對話里會經常的用到。這些詞匯可能考生早已熟知，但是并沒有有意識的去應用;所以，如果想要雅思考7，考生們需要通過與外教的交流或者是看一些國外的劇來積累至少50-70個這樣的口語高頻詞組。而且這些詞組非常地道，能夠讓雅思考官眼前一亮。

一進考試的房間，我們就要先和考官寒暄一下，然后進行身份核查。一般來說，我們管這部分叫Part 0，概括來說會問四個簡單基礎的問題，但是我們可以借這個機會，給考官留下一個“我英語很好”的好印象!
Q1: Good afternoon,my name’s Elizabeth. What’s your full name?/Could you tell me your full name,please?/May I have your full name?
- Good afternoon (Elizabeth), my name’s Zhang San.
不用擔心進屋子之后你和考官會相對無言陷入尷尬，考官會主動向你介紹他自己，告訴你他的名字，然后順勢問問你叫什么。這個時候你可以回答“下午好”，帶上或者不帶上考官的名字都可以。
TIPS：
1. 直接稱呼考官的名字即可，不要加上title
√ Good afternoon，Elizabeth.
× Good afternoon, Miss Elizabeth.
如果覺得不舒服，直接說Good afternoon就好。
2. 使用連讀，不要逐詞地說
√ my name’s Zhang San.
× my name is Zhang San.
這樣的連讀是高階發音，英語母語的人在日常表達中非常常用，在口語考試的其它部分也要注意使用哦!
3. 發音清晰，不要求快
考官們都是外國人，所以在說自己名字的時候盡量清晰一些，給考官消化的時間。另外，在考官問名字的時候，要說自己的中文名字哦!這是身份核對的一部分!
Q2:What can I call you?
- You can call me Zhang.
- Just call me Zhang.
- Please call me Zhang.
TIPS:
1. 不要解釋或補充其它信息。
不要說“All my friends call me Zhang”。這個答案聽上去特別像雅思口語參考書的模板句。也不要解釋你為啥叫這個名字。
2. 可以告訴考官你的英文名。
You can call me by my English name, Tony.
記住這句話，不要用錯哦!這是固定的～
Q3:Where are you from?/Could you tell me where are you from?
- I’m from Beijing.
- I come from Beijing.
- I’m from Beijing which is the capital of China.
TIPS:
1. 不要進一步延伸。
2. 不要反問考官或者給考官建議。
有的同學回答問題之后，還反問考官，And you?寶貝們記住，口語考試里面不要反問考官問題，是他考我們啊!不是我們考他!
另外，也不要說“I come from Beijing, I think you really should go there.” 只要簡單地回答考官的問題就好了。
3. 城市名用英文發音。
舉個例子，如果我們想說來自香港，我們要說“I’m from Hong Kong.”而不是按中文說Xiang Gang。
Q4:Could I see your identification,please?/Can you show me your identification,please?
- Here you are.
- Sure. Here you are.
- Of course. Here it is.
這個時候我們就要把身份證or護照or其它身份證明交給考官了。
TIPS:
1. identification=ID，所以有的考官也會問你要ID，回答的方式是一樣的。
2. 當然，你也可以選擇這個時候不說話，直接把身份證明交給考官就好了。但是最好還是簡單地回答一句，展示我們有禮貌哦～
