He is also the son of NBA player Joe "Jellybean" Bryant. Bryant spent much of his childhood in Italy, where his father played professional basketball, and speaks fluent Italian. Bryant entered the NBA at the age of eighteen as a high school student in the Philadelphia. He was originally selected by the Charlotte Hornets, but never played for the team.
